I also have the burn-in effect happening on my < 1yr old iMac. Fortunately, I found something that makes it almost unnoticeable. I created a screensaver which "exercises" all the pixels on the screen. It consists of 6 maximum intensity solid color files and 1 black, dimensioned to 1920x1200. They are: red (#FF0000), yellow (#FFFF00), green (#00FF00), cyan (#00FFFF), blue (#0000FF), magenta (#FF00FF) and black (#000000). They are all in a folder which the screensaver cycles through for a couple of hours before going into power save. I've only been doing it for a couple of days now, but the burn-in is now almost undetectable.
